Curriculum Enrichment

Our curriculum extends beyond the expectations of the National Curriculum, offering a rich and varied programme of learning that inspires curiosity, ambition, and personal growth. Underpinned by the words of John 10:10 – ‘I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full’ – we are committed to providing every child with opportunities to flourish academically, socially, and spiritually. Through purposeful and relevant learning experiences, we seek to raise aspirations, instil pride in achievement, and prepare pupils to live life in all its fullness

Whole School Theme Days/Weeks

Throughout the year, themed days/weeks are woven into the curriculum to extend and enhance the breadth and balance of opportunities we offer our pupils. These include Wear Your Scarf to School Day, World Book Day, Big School Birdwatch, Arts Week, Big Litter Pick, French Day, and much more.

Forest School

Our bespoke Forest School curriculum allows each year group to be fully immersed in outdoor learning opportunities, gaining a variety of skills and bringing topics from the classroom to life.

Physical Education

In addition to our high-quality PE lessons, our children are invited to take part in regular competitions with our local schools and clubs, sparking a love for physical education and sports. We also where possible, provide opportunities for our children to engage in a wider range of outdoor activities including sailing and caving.

Educational Visits and Residentials

School trips and visits are an integral part of the education of children at Leck St Peter’s. Class visits are aimed at bringing learning alive and providing first-hand experience. We also take part in many extra-curricular outings such as “The Big Sing” and a variety of sporting events.

Children in Years 4, 5 and 6 take part in residential visits. These are planned to provide new and exciting experiences. We aim to provide children with either a city visit (Edinburgh) or an urban experience (Brathay).

Visitors into School

We welcome visitors into school to deliver talks and workshops across a wide range of subjects, giving pupils access to outside experiences and expertise. Visitors provide a link with the wider community.

We have had a range of visitors including LEAF, the Fire Brigade, the local community for VE Day celebrations, and South Lakeland Greyhound Rescue, Cyberwise and Ladies in Pigs.

We have worked with Alex from Where the Wildings Are to undertake some nature-based workshops and to enhance our school grounds. We have also been working with Olivia from the Westminster Foundation offering a unique and valuable experience, fostering engagement, promoting social skills, and connecting children with nature. We were lucky enough to be invited to a community event where we joined two other local schools with children engaging in activities including making a nature book mark, bulb planting and apple pressing. 

Charity

Children at Leck St Peter’s are courageous advocates who are actively involved in charity work and fundraising for various local, national and international charities.  We hold annual events to raise funds for nominated charities including the Royal British Legion. Each year the children vote for their chosen charity and hold various fund-raising events across the year. This year we are supporting Craven Wildlife Trust.
