09.09.2022

We are all greatly saddened to hear of the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and join the nation and the world in mourning the death of our remarkable Monarch. The school community sends our thoughts and prayers to all the Royal Family.

The children have all had a great first full week back! The juniors started their Morecambe Football sessions on Tuesday afternoon, please ensure an outdoor PE kit and trainers are available in school for these sessions. This should include a jumper or a hoodie purely for PE purposes – not their school jumper – as we do go out whatever the weather!

It is our intention to continue to email the newsletter and all other school information, although when there are forms to be filled we will send a Friday bag, which should be returned the following Monday. All families will receive their first Friday bag today. There are lots of forms and a lot of information to read and respond to, it may be worth flicking the kettle on and finding a pen! Please return all forms in the Friday bag on Monday morning. It is vital school has the most up to date information for all children. Thank you!

Forms, Forms, Forms – at this time of year we have to send home a number of forms to check that we are holding all the correct information about our pupils.  Enclosed in the bags this week is a form titled Parental/Carer Consent and Medical Information Form for Educational Visits and Adventurous Activities.  This form is for the whole academic year and will cover local and low risk visits made by the children, for example, museum visits, local school visits, local walks and days out.  For anything else, such as residential or farm visits, we will seek further permission from you.  Although you are only completing one form for all the low risk activities we will send home an information sheet each time to keep you informed of the activities.
Also included in the bag is a Pupil Data Collection Sheet for each child.  This form is prepopulated with the information we currently hold on the school database for your child(ren). Please use a different coloured pen to make any amendments. It is important we have the most up-to-date information, so please do let us know if anything changes during the year.

Photograph Permission – last year we sent a form requesting permission for photographs which we advised would last the entirety of your child/ren’s time here at Leck. If you would like to change the permissions we have or are unsure of the permissions given, please contact Mrs Knapp.

REMINDER: Uniform – please wear full school uniform every day, and remember our new rule of arriving in school shoes, with different footwear to change into at break and lunch times (eg trainers, wellies) – these can be left in school in your shoe box as before.
Children should ALWAYS bring a coat for playtime and lunchtime. We do try to go out in all weathers, even just briefly.

Walk 2 School – our first Walk to School of this academic year is on Tuesday 13th September. As always, any children taking part will enjoy breakfast together when they arrive at school. We will meet at 8.20am in the carpark at the back of Cowan Bridge Village Stores. Please note, some children can be left with staff to walk up to school if you are rushing off to work – however, we are always very grateful to those parents who do stay and walk up with us as extra helpers!

Swimming Lessons – will begin on Thursday 15th September for Y3, 4 & 5 so please ensure that your child has their swimming kit with them, and every week. Boys should wear skin tight swimming trunks (not shorts), and girls should be wearing costumes with their hair tied back or swimming caps wherever possible. Attached to the email are some letters from Lune Valley Community Swimming Pool.

After School Club
Mindfulness Club – Mrs Mather’s Mindfulness club starts on Monday from 3.15-4.15pm. Payment can now either be made online via SchoolMoney or sent in to the office for all those signed up.
Please note – all children taking part will need a glass jar with lid this week please.

Music ClubTuesday 13th September – Tuesday 18th October. An email regarding music club was sent to all interested families. If anyone else is interested please let Mrs Knapp know ASAP.

Bookflix – thank you to all the children who took part in the Bookflix challenge over the holidays, we hope you enjoyed this reading for pleasure time.  We will continue to add to the sheet at school and the children will bring the sheet home again at half term.

A special thanks to Arabella, Charlie, Eilidh, Euan, Frank, Ivy and Sienna who chose to take up the sponsored element of the challenge, in total they raised £123.90. The children will be asked to choose books from the recommended reading lists and we will use this money to fund this for our readers of the half term awards and to add to our lovely library. Thank you.

Phonics Information – enclosed in Friday bags this week is an information letter regarding phonics for all parents / carers of children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2.
