02.12.2022

It has been another busy week in school. The whole school enjoyed a forest school session on Monday, where we celebrated National Tree Week. Children planted an apple tree and other outdoor activities.
On Tuesday morning, the children celebrated St Andrews Day. The children baked shortbread, learnt some Scottish dances and most children braved taste testing haggis. A great celebration all round.
On Wednesday morning, our KS1 children were invited to take part in an athletics event at Carnforth High School. The children all worked really hard and were a super team.

Eco School – the daffodil planters which have been lovingly planted by Mrs Mather and the Eco Club children are ready for collection. Please see Mrs Mather at the end of the day on Monday or Tuesday. Thank you.

Christmas Post Box – the post box will open from Monday, for children to send Christmas cards to each other. Please ensure the envelopes are clearly named with the recipient’s full name and class so our posties are able to deliver!

Walk to School – our next “Walk to School” is this Tuesday at 8.20am from Cowan Bridge Village Hall.  Those taking part will be rewarded with a lovely breakfast when they arrive at school.

Christmas Performance – the children are all very much looking forward to performing for you next Wednesday 7th December in the school hall at 2.00pm and 6.00pm. There are still a number of families left to let us know if they require evening performance tickets – please let us know by Monday so we can make sure we have plenty of seats.

Christmas Lunch – all children have had a Christmas Lunch ordered for Thursday 8th December, if you DO NOT want your child/ren to have a Christmas lunch in school, please email me to OPT OUT.  Payment will be available on our SchoolMoney online platform.

Carol Service – our annual Carol Service at Leck Church is on Monday 12th December from 6.00pm.  All children are expected to attend the Carol Service wearing their school uniform. We look forward to seeing as many parents, grandparents and friends of school there as possible.

Christmas Shopping – on Tuesday 13th December, we will be hosting a Christmas shopping event from 3.15pm. Children will have the opportunity to spend their pocket money on Christmas presents for you and/or members of your family; they will choose from a wide range of gifts and then personally wrap the present themselves. The gifts range between £3.00 & £5.00. We really hope that you will support this activity, as we believe it encourages the Christmas spirit of giving.

Christmas Pantomime – this year, the whole school will be watching “Robin Hood” at the Dukes Theatre on Wednesday 14th December.  A full information sheet will follow next week.
The total cost of the trip would have been in the region of £15.00, but as the PTFA have kindly agreed to fund the transport, and we received a generous donation from a former member of our school community which has funded the £10.50 ticket cost.  We would like to thank them both for making this a free school trip for all the children.

Malham Residential – the deadline for the deposit payment has now passed, and we do have a couple of children outstanding. We would like all junior children to take part in the residential visit so please do come and speak to us in school if the trip raises any issues which may prevent your child/ren from taking part. We do need to be confirming numbers with the Youth Hostel.

SchoolMoney – end of month reminders have been sent this week. Please try to keep account balances to a minimum.

Stamps – we have a large quantity of the new barcoded stamps in the office – if you would like to buy any at the current cost, please pop into the office and we can sell them – just in time for the Christmas cards! 95p First Class and 68p Second Class.

PTFA News
Santa’s Grotto – the PTFA have very kindly organised for Father Christmas to visit us at school on Thursday 15th December. He will be all set up in the Hobbit House (aka Santa’s Grotto!) All children will be taken down in groups and will all receive a gift. The PTFA are asking for £5.00 donation per child towards the cost of the gifts. Please send in to the school office in a named envelope. Thank you.
The Grand Christmas Raffle – the PTFA have worked really hard to get together some fantastic prizes, so we would like to raise as much money as possible. Children will have come home with an envelope of raffle tickets to sell to friends and family members, alongside a list of some of the magnificent raffle prizes we have been gifted. All envelopes should be returned by Friday 9th December – please return all tickets, sold or unsold.  Please do let me know if you would like any extra raffle tickets!
Festive Social
– all parents / carers / grandparents / family and friends are all warmly invited to come in to school for some festive refreshments and Carol singing from 3.15pm on Thursday 15th December where we will also be drawing the Christmas raffle and the Autumn 300 square.
