17.02.2023

We’ve had a lovely week to end the half-term. On Monday, we all thoroughly enjoyed our visit from the Yogi group as part of our wellbeing morning.
Throughout the morning we discussed the importance of sleep and exercise in maintaining positive mental health / wellbeing. We made sleep posters and made the most of our stunning outdoor environment by walking a mile around the track.
We discussed how:

We then discussed good sleep routines:

Parent Celebration Assembly – it was really lovely to celebrate with parents on Monday afternoon, we look forward to our next session with parents of Pen-y-Ghent (green house team) on Monday 20th March.

REMINDER: Proposal to Federate – all parents / carers should have received an email detailing the Schools proposal to federate with Hornby St Margaret’s. A paper copy of the proposal was enclosed in the Friday bag last week. If you have any comments or questions, please complete the feedback questionnaire before 27th February when the consultation period closes. Thank you.

KS2 Half-Term Entrepreneur Challenge – all KS2 children will be bringing £1-coin home with them today to start their half term challenge. This links to our PSHE topic, money.
The children are encouraged to turn their £1 into a larger amount by “being entrepreneurial”. They could buy a £1 worth of ingredients to make a cake to sell for a higher amount then buy more ingredients to sell more cakes. They could buy a small sponge and some washing liquid and wash cars. They could buy some paper and pens and make and sell bookmarks. They could buy a duster and charge family members for spring clean or be even more creative! The choices are endless!
On Monday 27th February please bring back to school your original £1 and your profits. We will look at the various ways in which people have “grown” their money and there will be prizes for the largest amount of profit and the most creative way of using your £1.  We will then also decide how to use our profits as responsible global citizens. All £1s must be returned to school on 27th February please.

Regional Strike Day Tuesday 28th February – school will be open as normal on Tuesday 28th February. We will keep parents / carers informed of the decision regarding the other planned strike days (15th / 16th March) as we move forward.

All clubs will be £10.00 for the half-term, payable on SchoolMoney.

Upper Junior Climbing Day – our year 5 & 6 children will be experiencing an introduction to climbing on Wednesday 1st March. An experienced instructor from Tower Wood Outdoor Centre will lead, along with Mr Stafford-Roberts and Mrs Elliott and will take place at Hutton Roof. A full information sheet is attached.

World Book Day – Thursday 2nd March – to celebrate World Book Day 2023, we are asking each child to bring in 2 books.
Book 1 is a book to swap, so a book which you no longer want. There will be an opportunity to swap this book during school time.
Book 2 is a book to share with your class. For Nursery and Reception this should be a book about animals.  For KS1 the book should be linked to our fantasy topic (under the sea, space, fairies etc). For KS2 this should be a book which you have enjoyed and would like to recommend to a friend or a book from a certain author that you would recommend. Book 2 will return home at the end of the day.
In the Friday bag this week you will find a book token for each child in school. These can be redeemed locally at The Book Lounge in Kirkby Lonsdale.

Eco-Club – Drink and Snack… will continue on a Tuesday after half-term. Any children wishing to join in should bring in £3.75 in a named envelope to cover to the end of term.

PE Kits / Outdoor Footwear – all PE kits and outdoor footwear are coming home for a well-deserved wash this half-term, but please help your child/ren to remember to bring them back on our first day.

Healthy Snacks & Drinks – please may we politely remind all parents of junior children to send HEALTHY snacks in for break time, we are increasingly seeing children with crisps and chocolates. Please can we also ask that these snacks are left handy (i.e. in coat pockets) for the children.  Can we also please ensure children only have water in their drink bottles. Energy drinks / Prime are not allowed in school. Thank you.

Match Boxes – please can all families save any match boxes for Mrs Mather to use in Forest School sessions. Thank you.

Parent Help – following the half-term break, a list will appear in school of all the odd jobs that need doing around the school grounds, but we don’t quite have the time to do them.
If any parents are able to offer an hour or so at the end of the school day, or after morning drop off please come and have a look at the list and we’re sure they’ll soon be ticked off!
This replaces our previous “parent help morning” as we realise how busy family lives can be at weekends and how important it is to spend time together.

Coming up the first week back:
