We’ve had another fun-filled week in school! At the start of the week, we had our first Reception starters visit – this will continue over the next couple of weeks where our new starters will also stay for lunch in readiness for joining Reception class in September.
On Tuesday morning, our lower junior children (Y3-4) went to Heaves Farm to see a day in the life of a working farm! The weather was perfect, and the children all had a fabulous day learning about how the animals are looked after and where our food comes from. Thank you to Westmorland County Agricultural Society for inviting us!
On Thursday, all our KS2 children (Y3-6) headed to Hornby St Margaret’s to take part in a debate workshop, the children actively took part and enjoyed the session.
Also on Thursday, some of our younger children went to Quernmore CE Primary School to take part in an Orienteering session with other schools from our cluster. The six children showed off their amazing map reading skills and had a great morning.

Whole School Photo – an email has been sent with a link to view and order the whole school photograph. Please let me know if you haven’t received it.

30 Days of Wild – in school all children have been enjoying taking part in the 30 Days of Wild. We have really enjoyed taking part in all the wild activities throughout June.

Edinburgh Residential – please remember to bring in all medical forms and any medication on Monday if you haven’t already done so. Thank you.

Book Stall on Monday, all children will be able to visit our pre-loved book stall run by Year 6. Books will be priced at either 10p or 20p, with half of the proceeds going to Bentham Pet Rescue and half to pay for a sweet treat for our Year 6 leavers on their party day. Please bring along your pennies!

Library Bus – the library bus will be visiting on Tuesday. As this is our last visit this academic year, please can all books be returned. Thank you.

KS1 Exciting News! – the Infant children are having a mock baptism in St Peter’s Church, on Thursday.
This is to support our RE work on “Special times” and Rev Jane will be leading the service.
Parents, God parents and the baby’s names have been chosen in readiness for this special occasion but to make it even more special I would like the children to dress up.
Please could children bring a named carrier bag, with a change of clothes, into school on the morning of Thursday 4th July. They will change into their “Sunday Best” after lunch.
Thank you
Mrs Browne

Trophies & Badges – please can all trophies for end of year awards, spelling bee and school council & librarian badges be returned to the office by Friday 5th  July.

Sports Day – we are really looking forward to Sports Day on Thursday 11th July at 1.15pm. Children should bring in a t-shirt in their house colour. If your child/ren are unsure of which house team they are in please email and we will let you know.
The PTFA will be serving refreshments – they would be very grateful for donations of scones / butter / jam / cream and biscuits / cakes.

School Council – please find attached a letter from the school council members regarding a bake sale on Friday 12th July.

School Meals – please find attached a letter regarding school meals for September onwards. Please return the slip, or email Mrs Knapp with requirements. Thank you.

REMINDER: Whole School TripMonday 8th July – our annual whole school trip takes us to the Buddhist Temple in Ulverston this year. Children from Reception to Year 6 will have a guided tour of the temple and have the opportunity to take part in a meditation session.
Our Nursery will therefore be closed on Monday 8th July as we will not be back in school until 3.15pm. Children will be able to choose an alternative day to attend that week.

PTFA News – Summer Social – Thursday 11th July from 3.15pm in school (straight after sports day!)
BBQ from 4pm. Games, races, prizes, bottle tombola and raffle.
Any raffle donations greatly appreciated. Tickets to try to sell to family and friends will be coming home at the start of next week.
All proceeds from PTFA events benefit all children in school, please support us!

REMINDER: School Times – as a polite reminder school currently starts at 9am and finishes at 3.15pm. We kindly request that all parents collect their children on time at the end of the day. Unfortunately, we are seeing more and more children being collected late at the end of the school day, and whilst we do have different after school clubs on Tuesday and Wednesday, these are for pre-booked children only. As with late arrivals, children being collected late should be collected from the office door.  We cannot guarantee that two members of staff will be on school site after 3:15pm.
Following the parental consultation, our school opening hours from September will be:

9.00am – 3.30pm.

School will start promptly at 9.00am however, as we do now, doors will be open from 8.50am and children are encouraged to come to school and enjoy a soft start to the day by walking the world with their friends. All children should be in school, in their classrooms, ready for the day for 9.00am registration.
