Welcome to our school website and our school. Located within the boundary of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, Leck St Peter’s Church of England Primary School is a small, rural primary school in an idyllic setting, surrounded by rolling green fields, dry stone walls and, of course, sheep! The school is the most northerly school in Lancashire and is close to the borders of Cumbria and North Yorkshire.

Being Voluntary Aided reflects our Church of England status and we have strong links with the Diocese of Blackburn. We serve the parishes of Leck, Tunstall, Ireby, Burrow and the surrounding area as far as Kirkby Lonsdale, Ingleton and Bentham.

Our ambition here at Leck St Peter’s is to provide the best possible primary education within our stimulating and creative setting.  We pride ourselves on our high behaviour standards rooted in our values of Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness and Self-control.  Our small class sizes add to our family feel and each child is known well and cared for by our kind and friendly staff.

In September 2023, Leck St Peter’s joined the Lune Valley Federation with Hornby St Margaret’s. Together the two schools are a family, committed to fostering a love of learning. We want our children to be curious about the world around them. Although each school is unique, our Federation staff and governors work as one team, fully invested in providing a rich curriculum in a fully inclusive environment.

Leck St Peter’s has a long history.  The first school at Cowan Bridge was founded in 1820 by Rev Wilson, then rector of Tunstall parish, for the education of clergymen’s daughters.  Charlotte Bronte and her sisters were sent to this school.  Her impressions of ‘Lowood School’ are recorded in Jane Eyre.

There has been a school on our site since 1857 when the original building was erected. Since then our school has been updated to provide accommodation for all aspects of the modern curriculum.

We offer a primary education to children aged 3 – 11 between the hours of 9.00am – 3.30pm.

If you are interested in finding out more about our school and would like to arrange a visit, please contact the school office bursar@leck-st-peters.lancs.sch.uk to make an appointment.  We would be proud to welcome you and show you around!
