We’ve had a lovely week in school to finish the half term.  The Upper Junior children enjoyed their virtual author visit and asked some brilliant questions. All children enjoyed seeing Harold and Katy when the Life Education team came to visit on Wednesday. Katy commented on how hard all the children had worked and how great their body knowledge was!

Speeding – as we are actively encouraging more parents and children to walk to school following the introduction of the WOW Walk to School programme, a couple of parents and local residents have commented on the speed in which some cars are travelling up and down the lane on the school drop off. Please can we remind all parents to drive sensibly up and down the lane, bearing in mind that there are very limited places to pass and you cannot easily see vehicles travelling in the opposite direction. You should also make sure to pass any pedestrians widely.

REMINDER: Upper Junior Caving Day – our year 5 & 6 children will be experiencing an introduction to caving on Tuesday 22nd February. Experienced instructors from Tower Wood Outdoor Centre will lead, along with Mr Stafford-Roberts. This will take place at a cave in the Yorkshire Dales chosen by the instructors, dependant on the weather. A visit information sheet was attached last week. Please come and see Mr Stafford-Roberts if you have any queries or concerns. We do have some children who have said they are not attending, if this is the case please can parents let us know.

REMINDER: Junior Rugby Club – following the half term break, Scott from Kirkby Lonsdale Rugby Club will be running an after-school Rugby Club on Thursday from 3.15-4.15pm starting on Thursday 24th February.  Payment of £10 towards the cost of the club will be made available on SchoolMoney. Please email to let Mrs Knapp know if your child wishes to attend.

REMINDER: Bikeability Training – all of our Y5 & 6 pupils will be undertaking Bikeability training on 3rd & 4th March. A letter was attached to the email last week regarding the training, an ‘M’ checklist to ensure your child’s bike is roadworthy and a consent form.
Please can you sign and return the consent form to enable your child to take part, thank you.

Reading News – following on from our previous newsletter where we introduced rewards for regular reading we would like to congratulate

for their hard work and commitment to reading at home. They all enjoyed choosing a brand-new book as a reward for their efforts.

Books to read before you leave – after half term all children in school will be asked to complete a book recommendation form to enable us to start our “Books to read before you leave Leck” library.

World Book Day – 2nd March 2022 – the children overwhelmingly voted to dress up as a book character on our book day (a day earlier than official World Book Day due to Bikeability).
We also have lots of exciting activities taking place during the day and all children are welcome to bring a (named) book from home to share with their friends. The junior children can bring a book they would like to read to a younger child.

Magazines – in literacy next term the Upper Junior children will be learning about magazine articles. Mrs Cottam would really appreciate any donations of child friendly magazines which the children can use in their work. Thank you.

Hot Chocolate & Toast – during the winter months, children from the Eco Team will be selling hot chocolate and toast on a Monday break to continue to raise money towards the school garden project. This will start on Monday 21st February. Any children wishing to join in should bring £3.00, to cover the half-term, in a named envelope on Monday 21st. Thank you.

School Money payments for Early Morning Club and School Meals are available on SchoolMoney. There are a number of accounts with quite high balances – please can we ask that account balances are kept to a minimum. Thank you.
