What a fabulous week we have all had in school with lots of lovely things happening.
On Monday afternoon, we welcomed the Creepy Crawly Bug Roadshow – the infant children were all extremely brave and it finished off our beasts topic perfectly.
We enjoyed welcoming lots of new faces to the Toddler Group Forest School session, where we planted a couple of apple trees for the Queen’s Green Canopy.
On Wednesday, our junior children ventured off to Manchester to take part in the Young Voices concert. It has been absolutely wonderful to hear how much all the children enjoyed the experience and to hear reviews from parents who were in the audience. It certainly makes all the effort put in from school worthwhile.
Today we have all enjoyed taking part in the Jubilee celebrations. The children have all worked together throughout the day – we’ve had treasure hunts, picnic lunches, gown making and the judging of our DT project.
There is also an air of sadness today, as we say goodbye to Amelie and Georgia who are moving onto pastures new. We hope you will both be very happy in your new school and we can’t wait to hear all about you settling in to your new home. Good luck girls!

Choir for the Queen – will be shown on the BBC from 11.00am on Friday 3rd June, and we are really hoping our brilliant junior children singing the national anthem may be included in their Service of Thanksgiving.

Walk 2 School – our next Walk to School is on Tuesday 7th June. As always, any children taking part will enjoy breakfast together when they arrive at school. We will meet at 8.20am in the carpark at the back of Cowan Bridge Village Stores. Please note, some children can be left with staff to walk up to school if you are rushing off to work – however, we are always very grateful to those parents who do stay and walk up with us as extra helpers!

Literacy News –
Dan Worsley – on our first day back after the May half term we have an exciting visitor! Dan Worsley (local..ish) author will be spending the morning with us. He will mainly be working with the KS2 children but will also be spending some time, donning his colourful story-telling waist coat, telling stories and tall tales to our nursery and KS1 children.  Mrs Jones has worked with Dan, a former teacher from Blackpool, on many occasions and assures us we are in for a real treat! Dan will be offering signed copies of his books at the discounted rate of £5 each on the day. Children will need to bring cash in a named envelope on Tuesday 7th June to purchase a signed book. Dan is very kindly donating some of his books to our school library. If you would like extra information about Dan or his books you can google him or find him on twitter or Facebook.

Bedrock Online Learning – the KS2 children have all thoroughly enjoyed our 4-week free trial of Bedrock Learning. The app has shown a huge % of progress in literacy skills for many of our pupils. Over the holidays or during the first week back I would really appreciate some feedback about the app from both children and parents.

Thank you. Mrs Jones

Reading Superstars – following on from our previous newsletters where we introduced rewards for regular reading we would like to congratulate

for their hard work and commitment to reading at home. They all enjoyed choosing a brand-new book as a reward for their efforts.

Infants Outdoor Education Day – all our infant children will be taking part in an outdoor education day at Borwick Hall Education Centre on Thursday 9th June – a full information sheet is attached.  Children will need to come to school with a packed lunch dressed in appropriate clothing for the weather, with a spare change of clothes and a towel in their rucksack.

School Photos – included in last weeks Friday bag was an envelope containing school photo proofs. We are strongly encouraging any parents who wish to order to do this online by 1st June.

Parents Meeting – Edinburghthank you to the parents who attended the Edinburgh residential meeting. Information for those who couldn’t attend is coming home with children today.

REMINDER: Gardening / Eco Club – will be moving to Monday or Tuesday lunchtime (weather dependent weekly) and will include litter picking, gardening and encouraging wildlife into our school grounds.

After School Science Club – we’ve had a great response for the science club next half-term. Payments should now be made on SchoolMoney.

School Money – end of month reminders have been sent out today. There are still a couple of accounts with balances from last financial year. Please try to make payments as soon as possible. If you are struggling to log in please ask Mrs Knapp.
