Thursday news instead of Friday, as we break for half-term today. We’ve had another great week in school to finish off a lovely half-term! On Monday, our littlest children in school enjoyed a full day at Borwick Hall, with our friends from Hornby St Margaret’s. The Reception & Year 1 children went on a walk to make a stick man before canoeing down the canal. Meanwhile, the Year 2 children started the day on Silverdale beach before spending the afternoon on Warton Cragg. Pictures have been added to our Facebook page.
On Tuesday, Mrs Wilson took a team of eight KS1 children to Carnforth High School to take part in an Athletics event. The children showed great sportsmanship and were great supporters of each other. Well done team!
Christmas Crafts – whilst it is still only October, we are looking ahead to after half-term and the return of Mrs Mather’s very popular Christmas Crafts club. This will be held on a Tuesday lunchtime and cost £12.00 for the full half-term. Payment is available on SchoolMoney and must be made by this Monday to allow for us to order the correct amount of resources.
Give an Hour Help Session – Wednesday 1st November – 3.15pm – parents / carers / families and friends are all invited to our first Give an Hour Help Session. We have a few jobs left from our parent help day, and thought it might be easier for families to stay at the end of a school day for an hour and we will be able to tick off a few of our odd jobs.
KS2 After School Gymnastics Club – 3.30-4.30pm – Mrs Jones has arranged an after-school gymnastics club for those children who expressed an interest in being in the competition next year. The first two sessions will run on 2nd & 9th November – after this the children will get split into smaller groups and given dates in which to attend. Children must be able to commit to these dates, in order to work on their routine with a partner.
SchoolMoney – if you log in to SchoolMoney, you will see a number of payments have become available. Edinburgh residential, Christmas pantomime & Young Voices spectator tickets are all available to be paid to make it easier for parents to do so, as and when they can.
Infants – our early years children are on the lookout for a number of things to use in their continuous provision after half-term. If anyone is out walking, please can you keep an eye out for:
- Conkers
- Acorns
They would also like to make a coin spiral, so please send in any loose 1p or 2ps if you have any spare. Please bring in anything you may have at the beginning of term. Thanking you in advance.
School Photos – have you ordered your school photos yet? A polite reminder that the closing date for free delivery back to school is Sunday 29th October. Order through the Tempest website using your unique link or visit www.tempest-orders.co.uk If you need any assistance in ordering your photos, feel free to contact Tempest on 01736 751555 (option 3).
REMINDER: Year 5 & 6 Residential – please complete the form on the back of the letter and return with your deposit as soon as possible or email Mrs Knapp. We appreciate that the trip may seem a while away but we need to confirm numbers and begin payment plans before November 3rd.
REMINDER: School Admissions September 2024 – Lancashire County Councils online application system is now open for applications for 2024 – www.lancashire.gov.uk (search “school admissions”) The closing date for applications is:
- Secondary school applications – 31st October 2023
- Primary school applications – 15th January 2024
If you live in either North Yorkshire or Cumbria, you will need to apply for secondary or primary school places via their website.
REMINDER: Uniform, Footwear & Hair Expectations – after the half term break, we would like to be really clear on our in school expectations.
All children should be coming to school in full uniform, with weather appropriate coat, hat, gloves etc.
On a daily basis, children need a pair of black school shoes, to wear in and around school, and then a pair of weather appropriate outdoor shoes/trainers/wellies which can get wet / mucky in and around the playground and field.
All children should also have a pair of trainers or pumps for PE, which should remain in their PE kit at all times.
All children, boys and girls, with hair long enough to be tied up, should have their hair brushed neatly into a bobble with fringes clipped back from the face / eyes.
