To all our wonderful Year 6 children
You have been absolutely amazing this week and we could not be prouder as your teachers. You have taken your SATs in your stride, working hard and showing resilience. Have a lovely weekend, you have earned it!

Year 2 children no longer do SATs assessments as of this year. Teachers will use ongoing teacher assessment to determine children’s attainment.
On Monday, our Reception, Y1 & 2 children enjoyed a beautiful day at Borwick Hall. Children took part in a range of outdoor activities, including den building, canoeing, caving and a bear hunt. Thank you to all our parent volunteers who joined us for the day – the trip would not have been possible without you!
On Tuesday afternoon we took part in another workshop with Alex from Where the Wildings are and a group of students from Lancaster University – children made creatures from natural items around our grounds.
On Friday, the whole school got together for a belated World Book Day celebration. All children brought in a book from home that they wanted to share with friends; we explored the outdoor areas at school where children listened to themed books and then they have taken part in activities linked to these stories, including making houses and observational paintings. A wonderful way to finish the school week.

Cluster Cross Country – our Y6, 5 & 4 children will be heading up to Tatham Fells on Wednesday afternoon to take part in a cluster cross country event. An information sheet is attached.

Phonics Screening – Y1 & some Y2 children will be taking part in the National Phonics Screening Check, the week beginning Monday 10th June. Those children involved will be bringing home a pack of information today.

Water Bottles – it would be helpful if all junior children could bring a water bottle to school daily. The children have outdoor PE lessons, and it is becoming increasingly distracting when numerous children are needing to come inside for drinks; they can take their own water bottles outside more easily.

REMINDER: Outdoor Area – our children and Mrs Mather have been working closely with Alex from Where the Wildings are! to upgrade our outdoor area. We have designed some plans, but now the FUNdraising starts! Parts of the project will be relatively straightforward and will just need (wo)manpower and time and others will cost. A list of some of the jobs that can be started anytime are at the bottom of this newsletter.
Unfortunately, due to health and safety reasons, our sponsored walk is not a viable event. We would need mountain leaders to lead the walk, which would end up costing too much before we started. We are already busy planning other fundraising ideas, please let us know if you have any suggestions. Thank you.

Summer Weather – as we have seen a little glimpse of summer this week, children are encouraged to bring sun hats / caps and apply suncream when applicable.

REMINDER: School Times – as a polite reminder school starts at 9am and finishes at 3.15pm. The doors are open from 8.50am and all children should be in school ready for lessons by 9am. If children arrive after 9am, they should enter via the office door.
We are seeing more and more children being collected late at the end of the school day, and whilst we do have different after school clubs on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, these are for pre-booked children only. Please try to let us know as soon as possible if you are held up in traffic or if something else comes up, please try to arrange with a family member or friend to collect (please phone to let us know in school).

SEEKING: Welfare Assistant – we are still looking for a welfare assistant, are you or do you know anyone who may be interested?  Please share.
We need someone to help serve meals and supervise the children during their midday break.  The vacancy is term time only covering Monday-Friday from 11.15am – 1.15pm – this includes collection of meals from Melling.  Please contact the office for more details.

PTFA News –

Mufti Day – children are invited to come to school in their own clothes on Friday 24th May, in exchange for a bottle for our bottle tombola.
Summer Social – we are beginning to organise a summer social. More details to follow.
