16.06.2023

We’ve had another great week in the sunshine! On Monday we welcomed Hamish and Harold, (a black moor and a golden oranda goldfish) to the junior classroom. The children wanted to spend the money they made from the half term entrepreneur challenge on a class pet. After a lot of deliberation, persuasive writing and voting we finally have our pets. Thank you to Finlay and Harriet for donating a tank for Hamish and Harold to live in, they appear to be very happy in their new home.
The weather couldn’t have been better for our day out at Tower Wood on Tuesday, where they all really enjoyed capsizing their boats at the end of the day! The lower juniors spent half their time orienteering and the other half kayaking. Throughout the day, children showed a whole range of our school values, including perseverance, resilience and kindness, as well as great teamwork and listening skills. Well done juniors!
Whilst the juniors were out on Tuesday, we invited next years Reception intake in for a settling session, which we will be doing again the next two Wednesdays. We have a full year group of 8 children joining Reception next year, many of which will be new families to the school.

Malham Residential – please can all children arrive at school as normal, for a 9.15am departure to Malham on Monday. A packed lunch will also be needed for the first day.
If any children require medication during the trip, please come in to school on Monday morning and we can fill in a medication form.
Please also remember to contact us if any contact details have changed from the medical form.
We hope all the children going have a fantastic time.

Outdoor After School Club – Mrs Mather has had a volunteer come forward to assist with running an after-school club as part of her Duke of Edinburgh award. This will take place on a Tuesday after school from 3.15-4.15pm prompt.  Due to trips and residentials, we are aware that children will not be able to commit to every week, so we will do this on an ad-hoc basis. Any children wishing to attend should bring £2.00 on the day. Please note due to prior commitments there will be no club on Tuesday 27th June.

Eco-Club – Drink and Snack… will continue on a Tuesday. This week children enjoyed ice pops and fruit juice. Any children wishing to join in should bring in £4.00 in a named envelope on Monday, to cover to the end of term.

Road Closure – Thursday 22nd June – from 9am until 3.30pm the road under the bridge at the bottom of the lane will be closed. Dropping off at school from 8.50am will be fine, but parents will need to divert via the single-track road to collect children at 3.15pm.

Fruit Mocktails – on Friday 30th June our lower junior children will be working in teams to create delicious fruit cocktails, advertised with a persuasive poster and a video advert. The juices will be randomly priced under £1 and all children in school are welcome to bring some loose change to purchase one of these delicious concoctions at break time. The children will be carefully measuring out the liquids and working out what change is needed for each purchase. We wonder which team will sell the most?

French Day – Tuesday 4th July is our French fashion show! This is our third French day for this year and our focus is food and clothes. Children are invited to wear their own clothes that day to stroll down the catwalk in. They will visit the French cafe where they can order a breakfast snack by speaking French. We are asking for a donation of £2 per child or £3 per family for this day.

Orchard Toys – we are on the lookout for some Orchard Toys maths and literacy games. Please consider donating them to school if you have any your child/ren might have outgrown. Thank you.

30 Days of Wild – in school all children have been enjoying taking part in the 30 Days of Wild, this week our activities have included animal spotting in the clouds and litter picking.

Trophies – please can all trophies be returned to school ready for our end of year awards. An email was sent earlier in the week, thank you to those who have already returned.
