Welcome back to school, and welcome to all our new children! It has been lovely to see all our children return to school this week, they have all settled back in well and seem happy to be back surrounded by friends. It is also lovely to welcome lots of new faces and families to our school, and we are sure they will all be very happy here at Leck.

Forms – all parents will find a form titled Parental/Carer Consent and Medical Information Form for Educational Visits and Adventurous Activities in their children’s book bag today.  This form is for the whole academic year and will cover local and low risk visits made by the children, for example, museum visits, local school visits, local walks and days out.  For anything else, such as residential or farm visits, we will seek further permission from you.  Although you are only completing one form for all the low risk activities we will send home an information sheet each time to keep you informed of the activities.
For our new reception children, parents will also find a Pupil Data Collection Sheet and a Photograph Permission letter. Please complete and return to school by Monday.
It is important we have the most up-to-date information, so please do let us know if anything changes during the year, particularly mobile phone numbers and email addresses as these are our preferred ways of contacting you. Thank you.

Photograph Permission – previously, you will have been sent a form requesting permission for photographs which we advised would last the entirety of your child/ren’s time here at Leck. If you would like to change the permissions we have or are unsure of the permissions given, please contact Mrs Knapp.
We will only include photographs of children on our Facebook page, website and local newspapers who we have received permission for.

Class Newsletter – please find attached class newsletters giving you specific information on the focus of studies for this term.

Healthy Snacks – all junior children are encouraged to bring a healthy snack to enjoy at morning playtime. We request that this is one of their five portions of fruit or veg a day. Any undesirable snacks will be sent home.

Diddi Dance – sessions for our Early Years and KS1 children start on Monday morning at 9.15am.

Morecambe Football – football sessions start on Tuesday. Please can we ask all parents to ensure their children have the correct outdoor PE kit in school. We intend to be outside during our lessons, whatever the weather, so please have tracksuit bottoms and a jumper in their kit just in case. A spare pair of socks is always handy too!

Westmorland Show – all children will be heading out on our first school trip next Wednesday 13th September, to the annual Westmorland County Show. The children will be exhibiting a large display of their work at the show.
We are asking parents for a £5.00 contribution towards the cost of the day. This goes towards the cost of transport to and from the show. Please make payment online via SchoolMoney by Monday given the proximity of the trip.
We appreciate that some families will be attending the show and if you would prefer your child/ren to go with you as a family unit rather than as part of the school trip, please let us know.
A full information sheet is attached.

Swimming Lessons – begin this Thursday for Y3, 4 & 5 so please ensure that your child has their swimming kit with them, and every week. Boys should wear skin tight swimming trunks (not shorts), and girls should be wearing costumes with their hair tied back or swimming caps wherever possible. There is a goggles permission letter from Lune Valley Swimming Pool attached, if you wish your child to wear goggles please ensure the letter is signed and returned before Thursday.

STEM Workshops – next week our junior children will be taking part in STEM workshops with Lancaster University. Please can children bring in any cardboard as they will need it for one of their activities. Thank you.

Pets Update – unfortunately over the summer holidays the filter in the fish tank broke and Harold and Hamish sadly died.
We have replaced the filter and bought some new fish who we have named:  Tiny Tom Cruise (teachers choice), Mighty Monty Don (teaching assistants choice), Summer (Y3 choice), Dumbo (Y4 choice), Bob (Y5 choice) Jeffrey (Y6 choice). Our 6 new fish (cloud minnows) seem very happy and we are looking forward to watching them grow over the year.
