06.10.2023

We have had a busy week in school. Firstly, we would like to say thank you to the parents / carers who gave up their Saturday morning to come along and help Mr Stafford-Roberts tick a few jobs off our list. We will share the list via email, for any parents who weren’t able to help at the weekend, but who could perhaps stay an hour after drop off or collection.
The junior children had a fantastic day at Tower Wood, and the weather was perfect. The upper juniors spent the morning kayaking, and the afternoon on the new high-ropes and zip wires. The lower juniors spent most of their time on the lake in canoes. It sounds like a brilliant day was had by all.
The weather was a little kinder, and more children joined us, for the Walk2School on Tuesday. Thank you to Mrs Mather for organising this for children every month.
On Tuesday, our infant children spent the morning doing some Forest School activities in the woods at the bottom of the school field. Children went on a senses journey and built dens.
Mr Stafford-Roberts started a First Aid club with upper juniors at lunchtime on Thursday and was very pleased with how the first session went and how engaged the children were. Children will follow a programme for the next six weeks at lunchtime, to learn the basics of how to give first aid, should the need arise – which I am sure you will all agree is a brilliant life skill to have!

Year 5 & 6 Residential – parents of children in Year 5 & 6 will find a letter attached about the upcoming residential trip to Edinburgh.  Please complete the form on the back of the letter and return with your deposit as soon as possible.  We appreciate that the trip may seem a while away but we need to confirm numbers and begin payment plans soon.

School Photographs – children in school will all have their individual and sibling photographs taken this Tuesday morning. If any families would like to bring pre-school siblings along for a family photograph, Rebecca will be ready from 8.45am.

Art – please can ALL JUNIORS bring an old over-sized T-Shirt or shirt to use and keep in school permanently for art and DT sessions. Over the next couple of weeks, the juniors will be working with clay. It needs to fit over their school uniform so must be baggy, we are just trying to protect school uniform!

Infants Outdoor Education Day – all our infant children will be taking part in an outdoor education day at Borwick Hall Education Centre on Monday 16th October – a full information sheet will follow next week.  Children will need to come to school with a packed lunch dressed in appropriate clothing for the weather, with a spare change of clothes and a towel in their rucksack.

Maths Curriculum Information Meeting – an email was sent on behalf of Mrs Browne on Monday afternoon, regarding a maths information meeting, please read and respond.

REMINDER: Parent Meetings – our first parent meetings of the year are due to take place on Wednesday 11th October. Please sign up on the sheets in the infant classroom, and the hall for juniors.

UNIFORM & PE KIT REMINDERS: we are flabbergasted to be writing this again, particularly after the weather we have had this week but, children should ALWAYS bring a coat for playtime and lunchtime. We do try to go out in all weathers, even just briefly.
PE – all children need to keep a full PE kit in school. The junior children also need a long-sleeved hoodie or jumper, and a spare pair of socks. We do try to go out whatever the weather, even if it is just for 15 / 20 minutes and we had to send home a few soggy school jumpers this week.

REMINDER: Juniors – please can all junior children bring a water bottle into school for use during lessons. Children have been taking longer than usual at the water cooler, and notably the Morecambe football sessions are being continually interrupted by long drinks breaks. Thank you.

REMINDER: Hair – we’ve noticed children have started coming to school with their long hair down. All children (both girls and boys) with hair which is long enough to be tied up should come to school with their hair brushed and either tied up neatly or clipped back from around their face. Thank you.

REMINDER: Annual Flu Sprayattached to the newsletter email a couple of weeks ago, was an email from Blackpool Teaching Hospitals School Age Vaccination Team regarding the Flu Nasal Spray.  The consent process is now online.  Please have a read and respond appropriately.  The vaccination team will be in school on the morning of Thursday 30th November to administer the nasal sprays.

SchoolMoney – end of month reminders were sent earlier this week. Please remember to regularly log in and keep balances to a minimum. Thank you.
