10.02.2023

We’ve had a great week in school this week. The junior children all thoroughly enjoyed their visit to the Maritime Museum on Monday, the children enjoyed meeting the Vikings and learning more about what life was like for them.  On Tuesday, 15 children joined the Walk 2 School and enjoyed breakfast together on arrival at school. Our next Walk 2 School will be on Tuesday 7th March. On Wednesday, all children enjoyed seeing Harold and Katy when the Life Education team came to visit. Katy commented on how welcoming all the children were and she can’t wait to visit us again! On Thursday a small group of junior children went out to join our cluster schools for an Acro event. The children had been very busy practising in after school club with Mrs Jones, and it showed, there were some brilliant routines! The team placed 3rd overall, with an individual 3rd medal also! Well done Team Leck!

Parent Celebration Assembly – Monday 13th February 2.45-3.15pm – parents of all children in Ingleborough (blue house team) are invited to our first parent celebration assembly as we celebrate achievements in school and worship with our families. We will hold a celebration assembly on the third Monday of each month, alternating between the three house teams. We hope to see lots of family and friends there.

Mental Health & Wellbeing Day – on Monday, the Yogi Group will be visiting school and will work with children to give them specific skills to help improve mental wellness, including anxiety-relieving techniques, breathing techniques, yoga poses and mindful movements. Please can all children wear warm clothes, suitable for PE activities (joggers / hoodie & a t-shirt). All children will also need wellies in school for other activities.

After School Clubs – today is the last after school dance club. Our last mindfulness session will be on Tuesday.
After the half term break will we have:

World Book Day – Thursday 2nd March – to celebrate World Book Day 2023, we are asking each child to bring in 2 books.
Book 1 is a book to swap, so a book which you no longer want. There will be an opportunity to swap this book during school time.
Book 2 is a book to share with your class. For Nursery and Reception this should be a book about animals.  For KS1 the book should be linked to our fantasy topic (under the sea, space, fairies etc). For KS2 this should be a book which you have enjoyed and would like to recommend to a friend or a book from a certain author that you would recommend. Book 2 will return home at the end of the day.
In the Friday bag this week you will find a book token for each child in school. These can be redeemed locally at The Book Lounge in Kirkby Lonsdale.

Proposal to Federate – all parents / carers should have received an email on 16th January detailing the Schools proposal to federate with Hornby St Margaret’s. A paper copy of the proposal is enclosed in the Friday bag today. If you have any comments or questions, please spare a few minutes to complete the feedback questionnaire (link sent in the email) before 27th February. Thank you.

Healthy Snacks – please may we politely remind all parents of junior children to send HEALTHY snacks in for break time, we are increasingly seeing children with crisps and chocolates. Please can we also ask that these snacks are left handy (i.e. in coat pockets) for the children.

Seasonal Sickness – it is that time again for coughs, colds, flu and outbreaks of norovirus, which impacts on us all, and not in a good way! We are therefore reminding you all of the importance of being vigilant for diarrhoea and vomiting (D&V) episodes/outbreaks. Thorough hand washing with liquid soap and water is the most effective preventative measure, however, in the event of infection, children with D&V should not return to school until they have been symptom free for 48 hours. There is infection control guidance in the parent advice section of the website.

Match Boxes – please can all families save any match boxes for Mrs Mather to use in Forest School sessions. Thank you.

PTFA Tuck Shop – end of term sweet treats – 50p bags of sweets will be available from the PTFA tuck shop at the end of the school day on Friday 17th February.
