PFTA Jumble Sale

The jumble sale raised a fantastic £480 for PFTA funds.  Well done to everyone who helped and supported in the many various ways.

Flu Vaccinations The date for the Flu Vaccinations has been changed.  The NHS team will now be visiting the school on Monday 23rd November.  If you gave permission for your Yr1/2 child to have the flu vaccination they will be given it just before the end of school on Monday.

 Whole School Trip to Preston

The cost for the trip is £10 per child, if you haven’t already sent in your permission slip please complete the form on the previous newsletter and return your payment on Monday at the latest.

We are going to Preston on Tuesday 24th November to visit the Gujarat Hindu Temple.  There will be an opportunity to buy spices from an Indian Supermarket and for the children to enjoy an Indian meal for lunch.  If you would like your child to buy some spices please send a list and some extra money on the day.  Enclosed this week is a full information sheet.  This trip fits in with our determination to educate our children about all faiths, including Christianity.  The children will be visiting the Temple in order to learn about the Hindu religion. A quote from the RE curriculum is ‘Pupils should extend their knowledge and understanding of religions and world views, recognising their local, national and global contexts……They should be encouraged to be curious and to ask increasingly challenging questions about religion, belief, values and human life.’

The aim of the trip is to fulfil the criteria laid out in the curriculum and the children will not be expected to participate in any religious ceremony; they are there mainly to learn about the Hindu religion in a real and stimulating context.

Squareball Festival at LRGS Children from years 3 and 4 will be attending a Squareball event at LRGS on Friday 27th November. This is similar to netball but the children throw the ball at a square rather than a net! Parents of those children involved will find an information sheet in this week’s Friday bag.

Christmas Pantomime!

This year, the whole school will be visiting “Beauty and the Beast” at the Dukes Theatre, Lancaster on the afternoon of Thursday 17th December.  Children won’t be back until around 5pm that day. Further information regarding the trip will follow shortly.  The ticket cost for this would be £9 per child but since the PTA have allocated £5 per child for trips parents will only need to pay £4.  PTA have also kindly agreed to fund the coach to Lancaster at a total cost of £200, thus significantly reducing the cost to parents.  We’ll send a permission and payment slip nearer the time.

Payment Cards for Malam Trip

Parents of those children taking part in next year’s residential visit to Malam will find a payment card in this week’s bag.  This is to help you keep track of payments and spread the cost of the trip.

The total cost is £100.00 per child less the deposit already paid if applicable. You can pay in instalments between now and the end of March, or in full – it is entirely up to you. Please make sure that you send all payments into school with the card provided. Any cheques should be made payable to Lancashire County Council.

If you have not informed us yet whether or not your child is going on this trip you will find a copy of the original letter in your Friday bag.  We would be very grateful if you would complete the form so we can let the Youth Hostel have the final numbers.

Toadstool Making

Mrs Mather is making some toadstools for the children to sit on in our outdoor areas.  If anyone has any rounds (tree stumps) of any size they would be gratefully received.  Thanks.

Woodland Walk/Garden Request

We need some conkers, acorns and/or fir cones in school.  If you are going on a walk or have a supply in your garden, we would be very grateful if you could bring some into school.  Many thanks.

Movember Mr Stafford-Roberts has been sporting a growing moustache recently in support of the Movember foundation.  He urges all men to check out the uk.movember.com as a reminder to look after their health!
