Friday 5th February

Newsletter – Friday 5th February 2016

Chinese New Year Activities

On Monday 8th February the Infant children will be learning about Chinese New Year with various craft activities and cooking some Chinese food.  The junior children will join us in enjoying the delicious treats we will be making.

Safer Internet Day

Safer Internet Day is on Tuesday 9th February this year, with the theme “Play your part for a better internet”. Children will take part in related activities that day. There are a range of links in the Parent Advice section of our website to help with E-Safety. We are also holding an internet safety information session for Leck and Hornby parents at Hornby School 6-7pm.  This will be led by a local authority consultant, please do come along if you can, it will be very informative.  Many thanks.

Walk to School The next “Walk to School” will be on Friday 12th February at 8.20am from Cowan Bridge Village Hall. Those taking part will be rewarded with either toast or pancakes and juice! Independent walkers are more than welcome but please note that the children will need to be at school by 8.30am for breakfast to allow enough time for staff to clear up for the day ahead.

PTFA Mufti Day & Valentines Disco

Love is in the air! Not long now until the valentine’s disco and mufti day on Friday 12th February. Children will need £1 for mufti day and £1 for the disco.  A Disco form is included in the Friday bag today, PTA would like this returning on Monday with payment, so they can get an idea how many are attending.  Mufti Day money can come in on Friday.  Many thanks.

Just a reminder – please could all parents/guardians come to school at normal pick up time to join the disco unless you have booked children into after school club. There will be tea and coffee for parents and of course the Jacobs join supper to enjoy.  If you haven’t already signed up to bring something please do if you can, many thanks.  We will have a tuck shop for the children so please bring spare change.  If anyone would like to volunteer to help on the day it would be much appreciated, please speak to Hayley Mason or Vanessa Christie.  Thank you for your continued support.

Staff News

The children may have mentioned that Mrs Hodgson is off sick currently, we all hope she makes a speedy recovery and is able to re-join us soon. Many thanks to Mrs Elliott, who is covering the teaching assistant post in the infants.

Mrs Dutton will be running after school club from Monday, we are sure the children will have lots of fun. We would like to thank Miss Coates for continuing to run it until Mrs Dutton could start and Mrs Elliott for running the first hour or so each day until Miss Coates arrived. We would all like to wish Miss Coates every happiness in her new job and look forward to catching up with her at school events.

Home-School Agreement

A copy of our annual Home-School agreement was sent out last week. If you haven’t already please discuss the agreement with your child at the level you feel they will understand, sign and return to school, thank you.

Bills, Bills, Bills

After School Club, Morning Club and Junior Dinner Bills are included in the relevant Friday bags today; please can parents ensure these are paid by Monday 8th February at the latest to allow time for banking before half-term.  Can we also remind junior parents that the balance for the Malham Trip in June needs to be paid by the end of March. Payment cards were sent out last term, please do come and talk to us if you have misplaced the card or if payment by March is difficult. Many thanks.

Gardening Club

Mrs Mather will be running an after school gardening club on Tuesdays starting after half term. The club will run until 4.15pm and children will need to bring wellies and old clothes/overalls to wear.  We will need parent volunteers so if you are able to help please do chat to Mrs Mather or send a message via the office, many thanks.  A permission slip is at the end of the newsletter, please fill it in and return on Monday 8th February if your children are interested in joining the club.

Governor Vacancy

We need a parent governor, unfortunately no one has come forward so we are extending the invitation to grandparents, neighbours or anyone that has children, even if they are grown up. Please spread the word and let us know if you have someone in mind.  Anyone looking for more information of what being a governor involves please contact the office or talk to Jayne Davies our chair of governors.
