Friday 16th March

Spring Term – Edition 23

Well what a week it’s been in school; the children all thoroughly enjoyed themselves on the Life Education Bus learning about their bodies and taking care of themselves and their wellbeing on Monday. On Tuesday, the Y5’s travelled to Bentham for Rewind to Easter, an event celebrating Easter at the Methodist Church – a fantastic opportunity to learn about this event in the Christian calendar and enjoy some collaboration activities with children from other local schools. The upper juniors had a fantastic day caving on Thursday with Mr Stafford-Roberts and the Tower Wood team; they went to a cave near Ribblehead Viaduct.

Annual Parental Questionnaire – the Parental Questionnaire is in your child’s Friday bag last week, please can you complete and return to school no later than Monday 19th March 2018. Thank you.

Parent Help MorningTOMORROW – from 9.30am. Parent help would be greatly appreciated at school – we will be clearing the pond & garden, filling in some potholes on the driveway, as well as some general maintenance jobs. We intend to start from 9.30am onwards and finish by lunchtime. It would be great to see as many of you there as possible – well behaved, helpful children are always welcome to come along too!

Easter Service – please could all junior children bring a named black t-shirt / jumper and black trousers / leggings to school on Monday 19th March. Thank you. The Easter service will take place on Wednesday 28th March at 6.30pm.

After-School Provision – can you help? – the Governors have set up a working group to look at re-establishing After-School Provision on the school site. As part of the work of the group, we would like to ask parents and carers if they would be interested in helping in any way with this provision.  You may, for example, be willing to be part of a back-up pool of parents that could help if the After-School Club Manager was absent or you may feel like you could help to run the After-School Club for a number of evenings per week.  You may even be interested in applying for the position of After-School Club Manager on a job share basis.  We are trying to get an idea of what help might be available from the parent community.  If you feel you would like to be involved, in any way, please return the form attached to the school office before 19th March.  Please note this does not have to be a firm commitment at this stage.  Thank you for your support.

The infant class are in need of some unwanted magazines and catalogues; if you have anything suitable please bring it into school. Many thanks.

REMINDER: School Council Talent Show – please ensure all children involved in the school council talent show bring along all instruments, props, music and costumes on Tuesday morning – many thanks.

REMINDER: Easter Activity Day – 29th March 2018 – the children will need to bring in their decorated egg entry. There will be prizes for infants, lower juniors and upper juniors. They will also need a hardboiled egg for pace egging in the afternoon.  As usual, there will be activities in the morning and in the afternoon there is the egg challenge, followed by the Easter Egg Hunt, with a separate Easter Egg Hunt for toddlers, nursery and reception children. Any pre-school children that might want to join in the Easter Egg Hunt are welcome to join us at 2.30pm. The day ends with our pace egg competition.

REMINDER: Decorated Egg Competition – the theme this year is The Royal Wedding.

REMINDER: PTFA Easter Bunny Drive – please return your bunny drive slip (with payment) by Monday if you wish to attend. Thank you.

Dear Parent,

My name is Nick Barron and over the last few months, I have taught your child/ren golf in after school club.  I hope they had as much fun as I did coaching them!
I just thought I would keep you informed of a couple of options for your child should they wish to continue playing golf through the summer.  Every Tuesday night from 4pm I host Junior Coaching sessions at Bentham Golf Club (open to anyone and everyone whether they are a member of the golf club or not).  They do not need to have played golf. There are a number of sessions for all ages and abilities split into groups depending on this and run every 45 minutes up until 7pm.  The first of these sessions starts on Tuesday 3rd April. The cost for these sessions is just £30 for 10 weeks.
Following on from that, every first Tuesday in the month starting from May there will be a ‘Texas Scramble’ competition night.  These nights are aimed at giving the kids a little more experience playing in competitions/matches.  The juniors are sent out in groups of three also with one/two golfing adults, parents and grandparents are actively encouraged, to help with rules & etiquette of golf.  These nights are great fun and the kids love them.  To take part in the Texas Scramble nights your child has to be a member of the golf club due to them playing on the course, memberships start from just £15 for the year.
If this sounds like fun for your child, then please get in touch with me on the details below or bob into the Pro shop at Bentham Golf Club for a chat.

Thanks, Nick Barron 015242 62455 (option 1)
