23rd March 2018
Spring Term – Edition 24
Firstly, may we take the opportunity to thank the two parent helpers and two volunteers who came to school last Saturday morning, unfortunately we weren’t able to get everything done that we’d planned, but we have made a good start with their help.
On Tuesday afternoon the school council hosted an hour of ‘Leck’s Got Talent’. All children involved made every effort to impress and really gave it their all! We were super impressed and proud of them all. Well done children.
All children enjoyed a science workshop delivered by QES on Thursday morning, the juniors was based on DNA and they all had a go at dissecting the DNA of a kiwi, which was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone. The infants workshop was based around animals and how they adapt to their surroundings and climate to survive. They all enjoyed using different equipment to replicate how birds’ beaks are shaped to enable them to collect food.
We also welcomed Daisy (Y2) and Alexander (N) into school for a settling in session on Thursday morning, they will be officially starting after the Easter break, and we hope they will be very happy here at Leck.
The PTFA would like to say a huge thank you to all who donated prizes for the Easter raffle at such short notice – we really do appreciate it. It was great to see so many parents and children enjoying the Bunny Drive. The running total is £117.72 so thank you all.
Annual Parental Questionnaire – many thanks to all families who sent their parental questionnaires back, we really do value the chance to get to know your opinions.
Easter Service – could the junior children please bring their black trousers/leggings and tops into school ASAP. We still have several children without any. Children will bring them home on Wednesday ready for coming to the service dressed and ready. All infant children should be dressed in their school uniform. Thanks. The Easter service will take place next Wednesday 28th March at 6.30pm.
Arnside – payment for the Arnside residential is now due. Enclosed in this week’s bag is a note showing any balance owing, please ensure balance is paid on Monday morning to allow for banking. If the deadline causes any problems, please do come and speak to us in confidence. Any cheques should be made payable to Lancashire County Council – thank you.
Uniform Order – Emma Galley will be placing a school uniform order next week, if you would like anything ordering please place any orders by Tuesday 27th March. Order forms can be collected from the office.
Infant Baking Sessions – will continue after half term, this time the children will be baking Fruity Flapjack. As usual, the children will be cooking in groups, on a rota basis, on Monday mornings, starting Monday 16th April. In this week’s bag you will find a full letter from Mrs Mather with all the details.
PE – all juniors will need their PE kits for the first day back; we will be doing indoor or outdoor PE dependent on the weather so please bring appropriate kit. We have also arranged some cricket coaching for a Tuesday afternoon from 2-3pm, with Mr Pemberton from the Lancashire Cricket Board.
*NEW* Circuit Training Club – Mrs Mather is challenging all children to come and join her new Circuit Training Club. The club will launch on Thursday 19th April and will run each week after school from 3.15-4.15pm up to the last week of term. This club is open to all and is £2 per session, payable in advance to Lancashire County Council. Parents of those children interested, should complete and return the permission slip at the bottom of the newsletter.
REMINDER: Easter Activity Day – 29th March 2018 – the children will need to bring in their decorated egg entry. There will be prizes for infants, lower juniors and upper juniors. They will also need a hardboiled egg for pace egging in the afternoon. As usual, there will be activities in the morning and in the afternoon there is the egg challenge, followed by the Easter Egg Hunt, with a separate Easter Egg Hunt for toddlers, nursery and reception children. Any pre-school children that might want to join in the Easter Egg Hunt are welcome to join us at 2.30pm. The day ends with our pace egg competition.
If any children would like to make an Easter garden at our activity morning, please can they bring in a metal tray or lid with some moss, gravel, yoghurt pot, flowers etc. Thank you.
