7th September 2018

Welcome Back – to a new school year, we hope you all had an enjoyable summer holiday! Firstly, we would like to say a huge thank you from all the staff for our lovely end of year gifts. Mrs Kelly would also like to thank all staff, parents and children for their kind well wishes and gifts and cards at the end of term.

New Faces – welcome to our new children; Evie who has joined us in year 6, Elise and Charlie in year 2 and our nursery children, who will all join us over the next week, Zara, Isla and Freyah. We would also like to welcome Mrs Cottam to the juniors and Mrs Franklin as our new welfare assistant. We are sure they will all be very happy here at Leck.

Westmorland Show – our first school trip is next week on Thursday 13th September to the annual Westmorland County Show. The children will be exhibiting a large display of their work at the show.
We are asking parents for a £5.00 contribution towards the cost of the day. This includes admission and transport. Please complete and return the slip giving permission for your child/ren to attend this outing together with payment of £5.00 per child by Monday given the proximity of the trip. Cheques should be made payable to Lancashire County Council.
We appreciate that some families will be attending the show and if you would prefer your child/ren to go as a family unit rather than as part of the school outing, please indicate clearly on the reply slip given.  More information and a kit list is on the information sheet enclosed in today’s Friday bag.

Forms, Forms, Forms – at this time of year we have to send home a number of forms to check that we are holding all the correct information about our pupils.  Enclosed in the bags this week is a form titled Parental/Carer Consent and Medical Information Form for Educational Visits and Adventurous Activities.  This form is for the whole academic year and will cover local and low risk visits made by the children, for example, museum visits, local school visits, local walks and days out.  For anything else, such as residential or farm visits, we will seek further permission from you.  Although you are only completing one form for all the low risk activities we will send home an information sheet each time to keep you informed of the activities.
Also included in the bag is a Pupil Data Collection Sheet for each child.  This form will be used to update the information we currently hold on the school database for your child(ren).  It is important we have the most up-to-date information, so please do let us know if anything changes during the year.

School Dinners – parents of children who have a school dinner will find an invoice in their Friday bag each week for the cost of the meals (except our infant children of course). Some of you may prefer to pay in advance whilst others may wish to pay weekly- the choice is yours! The cost is £2.30 per day. If you wish to pay for school dinners up to half term, the cost will be £75.90 (33 days @ £2.30 day) per child. Cheques should be made payable to Lancashire County Council.

Friday Bags – we thought it might be useful to remind you of how newsletters, school visit details and any other information is communicated. Each Friday, a bag will be sent home via your eldest child in school. This bag contains a variety of information for you to read and, in some cases, act upon. Please empty your bag on receipt ready for returning back to school every Monday. You can use the bag to safely return any reply slips, completed forms and money, if any has been requested. Any money that you do send into school must be in a clearly marked envelope with your child’s full name and what the money is for. It is important to ensure that your child knows to bring back and hand in their bags each Monday.

Weekly Newsletter – as in previous years, please let us know if you would rather receive the newsletter on paper, by email or both. Please complete the reply slip at the bottom and return by Monday. Thank you.

Class Newsletters – in this week’s bag, you will have separate infant and/or junior autumn term class newsletters giving you specific information on the focus of studies for this term.

Infant Cooking Classes – will resume on Monday 10th September starting off with Hugo & Thomas. The infants will be cooking in groups, on a rota basis, on Monday mornings. The first half terms bake will be Krispie Cakes, in this week’s bag, you will find a letter from Mrs Mather with full details and ingredients.

Reading Volunteers – we are looking for volunteers to listen to our children read, if you can spare an hour or so a week (or know someone who can) please let us know, we would be very grateful.
