21st September 2018

We’ve had a relatively quiet week in school this week. Fitness club was back on Monday, all the children seem to have enjoyed it – even with the weather turning at the last minute!
It was lovely to see Rev Wendy Thornton (Methodist Minister at Kirkby Lonsdale Methodist Church) back for an assembly on Thursday morning.
Finally, all the children had their best smiles on this morning for the school photos, fingers crossed proofs are back in time for next week’s Friday bag.

School Council Day – our Y4, 5 & 6 councillors will be heading out to Hornby Institute for a day of training on Tuesday, a full information sheet is included for the children involved.

Harvest Activity Day – our annual Harvest Activity Day will take place on Wednesday 26th September and we would be very grateful if children could bring into school any conkers, dry leaves, acorns, pressed leaves, circular pizza bases (card or polystyrene) and red, orange, yellow or brown wool or ribbon. They can bring these from Monday. Thank you.

Parents Meetings – the first parents evening of this school year is on Wednesday 10th October from 2.30-7.30pm (for juniors), infants will start at 3.30pm. The appointment sheets will be displayed on the notice board next to the school office from Monday and parents are invited to come into school and indicate their preferred 10-minute time slot.  Parents can telephone the office to reserve their appointments if they can’t make it into school.

Residential Visit to Edinburgh – parents of children in Y5 & 6 will find enclosed a letter about the residential trip to Edinburgh.  Please complete the form on the back of the letter and return with your deposit as soon as possible.  We appreciate that the trip may seem a while away but we need to confirm numbers and begin payment plans soon.

Lost Uniform – Amelie’s jumper is still missing (it is named) please could all parents have a look over the weekend to ensure it has not come home by mistake. Thank you.

Nasal Flu Vaccination Years R, 1, 2 3, 4 & 5 – pupils will find a letter from the NHS Immunisation team in today’s Friday bag. They require you to indicate if you are happy or not for your child to be given the immunisation in school. Please return all forms as soon as you can. If we do not receive the form in time your child may not be able to have the vaccine.  Thank you.

Seasonal Sickness – it is that time again for coughs, colds, flu and outbreaks of norovirus, which impacts on us all, and not in a good way! We are therefore reminding you all of the importance of being vigilant for diarrhoea and vomiting (D&V) episodes/outbreaks. Thorough hand washing with liquid soap and water is the most effective preventative measure, however, in the event of infection, children with D&V should not return to school until they have been symptom free for 48 hours. There is infection control guidance in the parent advice section of the website.

PTFA News – we will be holding a meeting at school on Monday 1st October from 2.45pm. It would be great if as many parents as possible could attend, particularly as we are actively seeking a chairperson and secretary.
We do have a few events in the pipeline, which we would also like to discuss, including film night, tuck shop, Christmas disco and a mufti day for Christmas raffle prizes.

Bag2School – the Bag2School collection has been arranged for Tuesday 9th October, you will find a bag per child enclosed today. They accept good quality adult and children’s clothing, paired shoes, hats, bags, belts, ties and soft toys. No bedding, curtains, towels or bric-a-brac please. Bags should be brought into school before 9am on Tuesday 9th October.
