6th September 2019

Welcome Back – to a new school year, we hope you all had an enjoyable summer holiday! Firstly, we would like to say a huge thank you from all the staff for our lovely end of year gifts.

New Faces – welcome to our new children; Sienna and Talula in Y3 and Emily in Nursery. We would also like to welcome Mrs Metcalfe as our new welfare assistant. We are sure they will all be very happy here at Leck.

Forms, Forms, Forms – at this time of year we have to send home a number of forms to check that we are holding all the correct information about our pupils.  Enclosed in the bags this week is a form titled Parental/Carer Consent and Medical Information Form for Educational Visits and Adventurous Activities.  This form is for the whole academic year and will cover local and low risk visits made by the children, for example, museum visits, local school visits, local walks and days out.  For anything else, such as residential or farm visits, we will seek further permission from you.  Although you are only completing one form for all the low risk activities we will send home an information sheet each time to keep you informed of the activities.
Also included in the bag is a Pupil Data Collection Sheet for each child.  This form will be used to update the information we currently hold on the school database for your child(ren).  It is important we have the most up-to-date information, so please do let us know if anything changes during the year.

Weekly Newsletter – as in previous years, please let us know if you would like to receive a copy of the newsletter by email. Please complete the reply slip at the bottom and return by Monday. Thank you.

Class Newsletters – in this week’s bag, you will have separate infant and/or junior autumn term class newsletters giving you specific information on the focus of studies for this term.

School Dinners & Early Morning Club Payments – as most families choose to pay online for school meals and early morning club, we will now send a text when a payment is due rather than a paper invoice in the Friday bag each week.
For anyone who chooses to pay by cash or cheque we will send monthly invoices home (last Friday of each calendar month). Cheques should be made payable to Lancashire County Council.

Friday Bags – we thought it might be useful to remind you of how newsletters, school visit details and any other information is communicated. Each Friday, a bag will be sent home via your eldest child in school. This bag contains a variety of information for you to read and, in some cases, act upon. Please empty your bag on receipt ready for returning back to school every Monday. You can use the bag to safely return any reply slips, completed forms and money, if any has been requested. Any money that you do send into school must be in a clearly marked envelope with your child’s full name and what the money is for. It is important to ensure that your child knows to bring back and hand in their bags each Monday.

Infant Cooking Classes – our baking session will resume on Monday with Edward & Hugo. The infants bake in groups, on a rota basis, on Monday mornings. This half term we will be baking cheese puffs. At the end of last term you will have received a letter from Mrs Mather with full details and ingredients, please let us know if you need another copy.

Juniors Morecambe Football Multi-Skills – sessions start on Tuesday 10th September, so please make sure your child’s PE kit and trainers are in school. Given our ever changing weather, please always ensure your child has tracksuit bottoms or similar, a warm top and a waterproof in school just in case!

Junior Swimming – lessons begin on Thursday 19th September for years 3, 4 & 5 so please ensure that your child has their swimming kit with them each week.

Infants – Mrs Mather has asked for all infants and nursery children to bring in a photograph of themselves as a baby for Monday please, this is to support our topic work. All photographs will be returned. Thank you.

Reading Volunteers – we are looking for volunteers to listen to our children read, if you can spare an hour or so a week (or know someone who can) please let us know, we would be very grateful. Any other volunteers are also welcome, be it art skills, baking etc. please come and see us.

Nasal Flu Vaccination – all pupils will find a letter from the NHS Immunisation team in today’s Friday bag. They require you to indicate if you are happy or not for your child to be given the immunisation in school. Please return all forms by Monday 16th September. If we don’t receive the form in time your child may not be able to have the vaccine.  Thank you.

School Council Badges – please could all school council badges be returned to school on Monday, thanks.
Any junior children wishing to be a part of the school council this year should prepare a speech to give to their class for next Thursday. Councillors will be announced next Friday.
