13th September 2019

What a lovely full week we’ve had back in school! We have appointed school councillors and worship team members; congratulations to all and well done to all our junior children who gave speeches, you all did a wonderful job.
Next week we are looking forward to swimming recommencing and our first infant forest school session of the new school year.

Juniors Cowan Bridge Walk on Monday afternoon all our junior children will be walking from school down into Cowan Bridge to have a look at the bridge and do some sketching to support our current topic.

Infants Forest School – the infants will be continuing their Forest School Adventures on Tuesday morning with a visit to the wooded area here at school. They will need appropriate outdoor clothing suitable for the weather.  If they have waterproof trousers please send them, as the ground is often damp even if it’s not actually raining.

PTFA Meeting – the PTFA will be meeting at school on Tuesday afternoon to plan and discuss ideas for the year ahead. Please do try to come along, as we really do need and value your support. Thank you.

Junior Swimming – lessons begin this Thursday for Y3, 4 & 5 so please ensure that your child has their swimming kit with them, and every week. Boys should wear skin tight swimming trunks (not shorts), and girls should be wearing costumes with their hair tied back or swimming caps wherever possible. There is a swimming etiquette and goggles permission letter from Lune Valley Swimming Pool enclosed, if you wish your child to wear goggles please ensure the letter is signed and returned before Thursday.

Photograph Permission – enclosed in today’s Friday bag is a permission for photographs letter, please read and return by Monday 23rd September. Thank you.

Head Lice – there has been a reported case of head lice in school. Please remember to check your child’s hair regularly and treat where necessary. Various treatment methods are outlined on the NHS website www.nhs.uk/conditions/head-lice

Seasonal Sickness – it is that time again for coughs, colds, flu and outbreaks of norovirus, which impacts on us all, and not in a good way! We are therefore reminding you all of the importance of being vigilant for diarrhoea and vomiting (D&V) episodes/outbreaks. Thorough hand washing with liquid soap and water is the most effective preventative measure, however, in the event of infection, children with D&V should not return to school until they have been symptom free for 48 hours. There is infection control guidance in the parent advice section of the website.

School Term & Holiday Pattern – a copy of our school term and holiday pattern is available under the school information section of our website, please can we draw particular attention to the change in May Day bank holiday to Friday 8th May 2020 to coincide with the 75th VE Day anniversary.
