4th October 2019

We’ve had a busy week in school with various activities taking place, starting with the Forest School session for infants on Tuesday. Once again, the weather wasn’t brilliant, but we enjoyed the great outdoors nonetheless, and had lots of fun building shelters for our little friend, the dormouse, ready for hibernation.
Cross Country took place at a rather muddy Tatham Fells on Wednesday afternoon, the children all behaved impeccably – a real credit to the school, well done to those who took part.
On Thursday we had our Christian Values Activity Day, with lots of craft and activities taking place around our school values; love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. You can see some wonderful pictures of what the children got up to on our Facebook page.

New Face – from next week, we will have a new face around school on a Monday & Tuesday. Seth Preece will be joining the infant class on his first placement visit in relation to his childcare course at Kendal College.  Seth, his two brothers and sister came to school here, so we are very pleased he has come back and hope he will enjoy his time with us.

Welfare Assistant – we have a vacancy for a welfare assistant on Friday from 11.45am – 1.15pm (term time only). We need someone to help serve meals and supervise the children during their midday break.  Please contact the office for more details.

School Photographsall the children had their photographs taken last week; all parents wishing to order need to do so by Sunday 13th October at the very latest.

Reception Children Class Photo – our reception children had their photograph taken for the Lancaster Guardian New Starters supplement, which will be in the paper on Friday 1st November. Proofs will be forwarded onto parents as soon as we receive them in school.

Infants Forest School – the infants will be continuing their Forest School Adventures on Tuesday morning with a visit to the wooded area here at school. They will need appropriate outdoor clothing suitable for the weather.  If they have waterproof trousers please send them, as the ground is often damp even if it’s not actually raining. A hat, scarf and gloves may be useful too, given the cold, windy weather we’ve had recently.

Walk to School Breakfast Trek – our first “Walk to School” of this academic year is this Thursday at 8.20am from Cowan Bridge Village Hall.  Those taking part will be rewarded with a lovely breakfast when they arrive at school.

Junior Sumdog Competition – all junior children have been signed up to a Lancashire Schools Sumdog Competition, which will be taking place over the next week. If children manage to answer 100 correctly, they will receive a virtual prize for their house – I’m told all the children will understand what this means!

PTFA Christmas Cards – all children have had the opportunity to design a Christmas card, we just have a few finishing touches to make on Tuesday. Parents can pop into school from Tuesday afternoon to have a look at their children’s designs and place any orders.

Mufti-Day – we have had to postpone the planned mufti-day for 17th October as our school councillors will be out at Arkholme Primary School taking part in a school council training event, our juniors also swim so wouldn’t get the full benefit of a mufti-day. It has been re-arranged for Friday 1st November.

Head Lice – there has been a reported case of head lice in school. Please remember to check your child’s hair regularly and treat where necessary. Various treatment methods are outlined on the NHS website www.nhs.uk/conditions/head-lice
