31st January 2020
We have had another quiet week in school. The library bus visited on Tuesday – children really value this opportunity to borrow and read a variety of different books. Due to half term the next library bus visit will be Tuesday 10th March.
REMINDER: PSHE & SRE – there was a letter and information leaflet from Mrs Browne in last week’s Friday bag. Please take the time to read through and return the reply slip if you are able to attend the meeting on 26th February. Thank you.
Welfare Assistant – we have a vacancy for a welfare assistant on Wednesday, Thursday & Friday from 11.45am – 1.15pm (term time only). We need someone to help serve meals and supervise the children during their midday break. Please contact the office for more details.
School Dinners & Early Morning Club Payments –
monthly invoices are enclosed for those who choose to pay by cheque or cash. Cheques should be made payable to Lancashire County Council.
Infants Forest School – the infants will be continuing their Forest School Adventures on Monday with a visit to the wooded area here at school along with children from Hornby St Margaret’s. They will need appropriate outdoor clothing suitable for the weather. If they have waterproof trousers please send them, as the ground is often damp even if it’s not actually raining. A hat, scarf and gloves may be useful too, given the cold, windy weather we’ve had recently.
Walk to School Breakfast Trek – our next “Walk to School” is this Tuesday at 8.20am from Cowan Bridge Village Hall. Those taking part will be rewarded with a lovely breakfast when they arrive at school.
Lower Junior Football at Arkholme – our lower junior children have been invited to take part in a 5-aside football tournament at Arkholme on Wednesday 5th February. A full information sheet is enclosed for those taking part.
Upper Junior Caving Day – our year 5 & 6 children will be experiencing an introduction to caving on Wednesday 5th February. An experienced instructor from Tower Wood Outdoor Centre will lead, along with Mr Stafford-Roberts and will take place at a cave in the Yorkshire Dales chosen by the instructor, dependant on the weather. Parents of the children involved will find a full information enclosed. Please come and see Mr Stafford-Roberts if you have any queries or concerns.
Art & Culture Visit – volunteers from Lancaster University will be visiting school on Monday 10th February to spend the day with our children.
Diddi Dance – following the half term break Diddi Dance will be providing sessions on a Tuesday morning from 11.15am for children in Reception and Nursery, starting on Tuesday 25th February.
We would like to welcome other children to the session, so this will also be available to younger siblings of any children in school; please let us know in the office if you’d like to come along.
Nursery parents – if Tuesday isn’t your child’s usual nursery session but you would like them to come, please bring them along or talk to us about changing / adding any sessions. Thank you.
Lancashire Adult Learning – Y6 SATs Sessions – parents of children in Y6 are invited to attend two SATs sessions provided by Lancashire Adult Learning College.
The focus of the sessions is to inform parents on the full process of SATs assessment; from the structure and format of the assessments through to taking part in a variety of fun, informal activities based around the topics and skills covered in the assessments.
Both sessions are on Friday 6th March – English from 9.30-11.30am and Maths from 1-3pm.
Please return the reply slip at the bottom if you are interested in attending either or both sessions.
Parent / Carers Evening Out – an evening out has been arranged at the Royal Hotel in Kirkby Lonsdale for Wednesday 5th February (time TBC).
A menu is displayed outside the office, please pop in to make your choices.
