KS1 News – Autumn A
Dear Parents
We hope you all had a good summer holiday and are feeling refreshed for our new school year. It’s lovely to welcome back old faces as well as some new ones, in particular George into Year 1.
We have lots of exciting things planned for this half term, more details will follow over the coming weeks in the main school newsletter.
PE kits can remain in school, it will then be sent home at the end of the half term for a well deserved wash!
As always, if you have any worries or concerns please come and talk to us, preferably after school when we have a little more time.

Staff
Mrs Mather will teach as follows:-
Monday—literacy, numeracy, dance and computing.
Tuesday– literacy, numeracy and science.
Wednesday morning—literacy and topic eg. geography and history.
Mrs Browne (when she returns) will teach as follows:-
Wednesday afternoon— numeracy and group reading.
Thursday—literacy, numeracy, RE, Music and PSHE.
Friday— literacy, numeracy, PE and art/DT.
Miss Bartle our teaching assistant, will provide full time support in the Infant classroom.
On PE days please could girls with long hair ensure it is tied back. Thank you.
Topics
This half term we will be working on a ‘Castles’ topic. This will include work on:-
History—our nation’s history including the great fire of London and the monarchy.
Music—dynamics, songs on a royal theme.
Art—drawing / painting skills.
Computing—we are story tellers –multi-media.
Science—uses of everyday materials.
Literacy— Wolf stories!
Numeracy— properties of number eg. place value, estimation as well as methods for addition and subtraction.
Topic maths—properties of 2D and 3D shape, length and mass.
Dance—knights, castles and dragons.
PE— Games—rolling including sending and receiving.
RE— The Bible. Why it is such a special book. Holy books from other faiths.
PSHE— core skills and “It’s OK to tell”
Homework
Reading – your child will read with an adult individually as often as possible and as part of a weekly group read.
Years 1 & 2 should read to an adult at home regularly, preferably daily for 15 to 20 minutes. New books will be given out on a Monday and are to be kept at home until the following Monday.
Spellings—Years 1 & 2 A weekly test will take place on a Monday with new words being given out on the same day. Please ensure spelling books are in school on that day.
Number— This will be set on the OneDrive every Thursday morning. It can be completed in their homework book and returned on a Monday or ideally a photo can be taken and sent to Mrs Mather: vikimather@leck-st-peters.lancs.sch.uk
If at any time homework is causing a problem please let us know.
We have high expectations so please encourage your child to complete homework neatly.
