KS2 News – Autumn
Dear Parents and children,
Welcome back to the start of the new school year! We hope you are all well and ready to get back to a bit of normality. The children have made a great start back already and it is lovely to see them all again. We would especially like to welcome the children who have joined our class this year: Belle (Y6), Frank (Y4), Ivy and George (both Y3) as well as Hugo and Lillian (also Y3) who were already with us at Leck. It is lovely to get you know all!
What we will be learning this term:
| English | Writing linked to a historical novel (based on our History topic) |
| History | The Victorians |
| Geography | The Major Cities of the World |
| Science | Forces (Friction, Magnets, Levers and Gears) and Material Changes |
| RE | How we face challenges (support unit following lockdown) and People of Faith |
| French | Where I live, numbers to 100, Christmas in France |
| Computing | Keeping safe online, coding an animation |
| DT | Designing and making a Victorian style moving toy |
| PE | Morecambe football on Tuesday afternoons at school
Swimming (Year 3, 4 and 5 only) on Thursday afternoons at Hornby Pool |
Swimming and PE lessons – please make sure your child has their full swimming kit (including goggles if required) each Thursday. Rather than swim, Y6 will remain at school with Mrs Cottam for additional Booster sessions.
Please ensure for PE lessons, that your child has a full school PE kit: School PE t-shirt and sweatshirt, shorts, jogging bottoms in colder weather and trainers – they cannot play football in black pumps as they do not give adequate ankle support.
Reading – The children will continue to read daily and will join in guided and shared reading sessions with an adult during the week. We encourage daily reading at home too (20 – 30 minutes please) and the children have borrowed books they have chosen from our school library to support this. These can be returned to school when they have finished with them. In school we support your child’s reading comprehension by asking them questions about the text, discussing their opinions and any new vocabulary – it would be great if you could continue this at home too.
Homework – Every week, homework will include reading (see above), spellings to learn for a weekly test, practise on Times Table Rock Stars, plus one ‘extra’ task which is explained on the half termly homework grid.
As we need to minimise the transferring of books etc to and from home, the ‘extra’ homework will be set online this term. The children have been taught how to access their homework using their individual logins for the One Drive. After completing the extra task, please email a photo of the finished piece to me (Mrs Tidd). We do not need to see the children’s spellings practise, we will know they have done their homework from their test scores!
Thank you for your continued support.
Kind regards,
Mrs Tidd (Teacher Mon – Wed), Mrs Cottam (Teacher Thurs – Fri) and Mrs Stalker (TA)
