16th October 2020
We all had a thoroughly enjoyable day on Wednesday as both classes took part in various craft activities as part of our Values Activity Day. Pictures from the day can be seen on our Facebook page.
We would like to say a huge THANK YOU to Mrs Rutherford (Florence’s mum) who has kindly offered to take on the school garden and vegetable plot and help us bring it back to life! More details are below.
Staffing – we are pleased that Mrs Browne has now finished her phased return to the classroom and is back teaching her normal hours. Unfortunately, Mrs Chesters is still unable to return to work; Mrs Cottam will continue to cover in her absence.
Welfare Assistant – we currently have a vacancy for a welfare assistant on a Wednesday, Thursday & Friday from 11.45am – 1.15pm (term time only).
We need someone to help serve meals and supervise the children during their midday break. Please contact the office for more details and pass on to any family or friends who may be interested.
School Meals – following the half term break, we will resume serving hot school meals. A menu is attached.
If your child does not currently have school meals but would like to please let Mrs Knapp know in the office.
Morecambe Football – please can all parents ensure that children have an appropriate outdoor PE kit available in school. This should consist of a polo shirt, jogging bottoms and a jumper; a spare pair of socks wouldn’t go amiss either. All children will need a pair of trainers in school. Our sessions are outside whatever the weather.
Infants Outdoor Education Day – all our infant children will be taking part in an outdoor education day at Borwick Hall Education Centre on Tuesday 20th October – a full information sheet is attached. Children will need to come to school with a packed lunch dressed in appropriate clothing for the weather, with a spare change of clothes and a towel in their rucksack.
Juniors Tower Wood – junior children will once again be visiting Tower Wood Outdoor Centre on Thursday 5th November. This activity centre on the shores of Lake Windermere offers a wide range of both land and water based activities, perfect for a day’s adventure! Children should wear their own warm clothes, outdoor shoes or boots and will need a waterproof coat. Waterproof trousers would also be useful if they have them. They will require a packed lunch. We have a full day planned and will not be back at school until 5.15pm. Should anyone have any concerns or queries please speak to Mr Stafford-Roberts.
QES Admissions – QES have updated their website here: admissions2021. In this section, they have added their prospectus and tried to answer the questions most frequently asked on tours of the school.
There are also several ways a parent can communicate with the head teacher directly if you would like – whether that’s wanting a phone call or simply emailing a query or a Teams chat. Please do not hesitate to contact QES on 015242 71275.
All Y6 parents are reminded that they must apply for a secondary school place for their child by 31st October 2020.
School Garden and Allotment – further to the information above, we would like to request a donation from families towards the garden and allotment. This could be:
- Compost for the pots
- Spring flowering bulbs – e.g. crocuses, daffodils, hyacinths, tulips
- Violas/pansies for the planters
- Any other plants for the ornamental garden in particular autumnal or spring flowering plants
- Garlic or onion sets
- Any other vegetable seedlings that can be set out into the allotment at this time of year.
These can be brought to school at any time before Wednesday 4th November. Thank you in advance of your generosity.
PTFA Recipe Book – the PTFA are hoping to design a school recipe book which will be printed and sold in time to make an ideal Christmas gift.
We would therefore like to ask all children to donate their favourite recipe. This can be sweet or savoury, chutney or jam, cake or stew, anything goes… We will then sort these into chapters and made into a book. Please send all recipes to Mrs Mather: vikimather@leck-st-peters.lancs.sch.uk by 30th October.
We will also be running a competition over the half term break for the design for the front cover – more details to follow.
Boxes of Hope – attached is a leaflet about the Boxes of Hope Cumbria Charity who run a shoebox appeal supporting children in Romania.
We would really appreciate you joining with us to support this charity and have organised a collection from Hornby St Margaret’s School. Please bring any shoeboxes to school by Friday 6th November; this will enable us to deliver them to Hornby in time. Thank you.
