8th October 2021
It has been another quiet week in school. This week children may have shared with you the news that Mrs Chesters has retired, we wish her the very best in her retirement.
Mrs Cottam will continue in her role through to the end of this academic year when we will look to appoint a permanent teacher.
Mrs Jones has now been with us for just over 5 weeks and has settled into her role brilliantly with the lower juniors every morning.
Mrs Stalker is away from school looking after her husband who has had a stroke. We’re hopeful that she will return after half term. Thanks to Mrs Elliott who has stepped in to cover.
We would like to thank all our infant parents for bringing children back to school for the afternoon on Thursday, following the flooding of the classroom. Mrs Browne and Mrs Wilson managed to clean up the main of the water, with little damage, and the water heater, which broke, will be replaced in due course.
Parent Meetings – meeting links have been emailed to families today – please let us know if you haven’t received one.
REMINDER: Young Voices – Manchester Arena – 7th February 2022. We are organising an exciting opportunity for the junior children to take part in the UK’s biggest school’s concert.
We will organise a bus to take all the children for the day rehearsal then parents are invited to a concert in the evening. Further information regarding tickets will follow. We will return to school around 11pm, children will be able to come into school a little later on Tuesday morning. We have provisionally booked places for all junior pupils and therefore need to know if any children will not be attending. Please return the response slip at the bottom of this newsletter or email bursar@leck-st-peters.lancs.sch.uk if you do not wish for your child/ren to participate.
Parents may remember some of our previous Year 6 leavers talking about this event as a fantastic opportunity that they really enjoyed!
Year 5 & 6 Residential – parents of children in Year 5 & 6 will find a letter about the upcoming residential trip to Edinburgh in their Friday bag today. Please complete the form on the back of the letter and return with your deposit as soon as possible. We appreciate that the trip may seem a while away but we need to confirm numbers and begin payment plans soon.
Infants Outdoor Education Day – all our infant children will be taking part in an outdoor education day at Borwick Hall Education Centre on Tuesday 12th October – a full information sheet is attached. Children will need to come to school with a packed lunch dressed in appropriate clothing for the weather, with a spare change of clothes and a towel in their rucksack.
Upper Junior Rugby – some of our Y5 & 6s have been chosen to take part in the cluster rugby event at Wray next Tuesday. A full information sheet is attached for the children involved. Please be aware children will need a packed lunch.
Harvest Collection – on Thursday 21st October, children will be attending a Harvest assembly with Rev Wendy Thornton. We would like to ask all families to contribute to our Harvest collection by bringing in a food item to donate to our local foodbank.
Christmas Craft Club – after half term Mrs Mather will be starting a Christmas club, which will run at lunchtimes on a Monday. Children will be making a range of different Christmas crafts which will make lovely gifts. The cost for 7 weeks is £14.00 which covers all materials. Please return the slip by Monday if your child/ren would like to join so that resources can be ordered. Many thanks.
Boxes of Hope – in your Friday bags you will find a leaflet about the Boxes of Hope Cumbria Charity who run a shoebox appeal supporting children in Romania. We would really appreciate you joining with us to support this charity and have organised a collection from Hornby St Margaret’s School. Please note that this means all shoeboxes must be here at Leck ready for collection by Monday 1st November, this will enable us to deliver them to Hornby in time. Thank you.
PTFA 50 Club – payment can now be made for the Club 50 tickets. Numbers are £2.00 each and payment can either be made online or via cash / cheque to the school office (payable to Leck St Peter’s PTFA). Numbers will be confirmed by half term and we will hold the first draw in November.
Don’t forget to share with any family members and friends who might be interested and ask them to email bursar@leck-st-peters.lancs.sch.uk if they’d like any numbers.
What is a 50 Club? Subscribers buy numbered tickets that are entered into a draw at regular intervals – usually once a month.
Typically, 50 tickets are available (hence the name). Players (parents, teachers and friends of the school) pay a fixed subscription for their number (or numbers), and a percentage of the profits makes up the monthly prize(s), with the remainder going directly to PTFA funds.
We are aiming for this to be set up and ready for a draw to take place in November.
