21st October 2021
We’ve all had a great last week to finish of this half-term. All children had a thoroughly enjoyable day out in Lancaster on Tuesday, it was a shame about the weather but it didn’t dampen our spirits. The junior children enjoyed spending time at the City Museum with Marcus the Roman and the infant children stepped back in time at Judge’s Lodgings to see the toys which had been played with hundreds of years ago. These visits really complemented our topic work in school and were a great way to round the topics off.
Secondary School Applications – the closing date for applications to secondary school is 31st October. Applications should be made on your local authority website.
School Photographs – on Monday morning all children in school had their individual and sibling photographs taken. Everyone was sent home with an envelope containing proofs.
We are strongly encouraging any parents who wish to order to do this online by the end of next week (29th October).
Litter Pick – Mrs Mather and a small group of children went litter picking on Monday. Following the half-term break we hope to make this a more regular occurrence as part of our Eco Schools initiative.
Harvest Collection – we were amazed by your generosity for the Harvest Collection. Thank you. Reverend Wendy took the collection to the Community Kitchen in Kirkby Lonsdale and we are sure they will be extremely grateful for all the donations.
SchoolMoney – payment reminders for school meals, early morning club and any other clubs or trips have been sent out this week. Please try to keep account balances to a minimum.
REMINDER: Boxes of Hope – for anyone wishing to donate a shoebox, please remember all shoeboxes must be here at Leck ready for collection by Monday 1st November, this will enable us to deliver them to Hornby in time. Thank you.
Christmas Craft Club – the Christmas craft club has proved very popular. To allow us to order resources, payment should now be made via the SchoolMoney system. Everyone who requested a place will have the payment option available.
Walk 2 School – Mrs Mather is planning a Walk to School for the first week back after the half term break. As always, any children taking part will enjoy breakfast together when they arrive at school. We will meet at 8.20am on Tuesday 2nd November, in the carpark at the back of Cowan Bridge Village Stores.
Morecambe Football – will continue after the half-term break. Children should all bring an outdoor PE kit back to school. Children should not be doing PE in their school shoes, or jumpers as we saw this week. They will need jogging bottoms or leggings, a long-sleeved sweatshirt or hoodie and trainers. A spare pair of socks in their bags would also be great for when the weather is wet. Thank you.
Donations – we would be extremely grateful for any donations of out-grown trainers for our spares box.
After School Film Club – will continue after half term, on Tuesday’s from 3.15-4.15pm, when we will resume watching ‘Peter Rabbit 2’ which is rated PG.
Swimming – lessons for children in Y3, 4 & 5 will continue after half-term on a Thursday afternoon. Please help remind children to bring their kits.
Junior Half-Term Homework – please can all junior children start collecting together any recycled materials or card, feathers etc that they have chosen to use in their Art collage after half term – these can be brought into school in a named carrier bag ready for our Art lesson on Wednesday 3rd November.
Welfare Assistant – we currently have a vacancy for a welfare assistant Monday-Friday from 11.45am – 1.15pm (term time only).
We need someone to help serve meals and supervise the children during their midday break. Please contact the office for more details.
