16th November 2018
This week we joined the nation in supporting National Anti-Bullying Week. We have had class discussions based on this year’s theme “Choose Respect” and the junior class produced some wonderful posters.
Our year 4 children all had an enjoyable day at the Festival of Light event, creating wonderful crafts based on different cultural celebrations, although I am told they enjoyed their lunch hour and the climbing frame most!
Christmas Activity Day – we are still in need of yoghurt pots, old CDs, small red, green or white / mother of pearl buttons and beads. If you have any that we could use for our decoration making, please send them to school as soon as possible. Thank you.
Juniors Outdoor History – Wednesday 21st November. All junior children will be taking part in a World War 1 reality lesson outside in the woodland area at school, where they will find out more about what life was like in the trenches. Please could all children bring to school the following items:
- Wellies (or footwear they can get muddy)
- Warm, waterproof coat
- A clean, empty tin (e.g. baked bean tin) – the children will be eating from this so please ensure it has no sharp edges.
Thank you in advance for your support.
PTFA Christmas Fair –
25th November, 2.00pm-5.00pm at Burton in Lonsdale Village Hall.
Thank you to all those parents who have volunteered to ‘man’ a stall on the day, and for donations of refreshments, books and craft essentials, we really wouldn’t be able to run the event without you. Now comes the drive to get as many people there as possible, so shout it far and wide, and tell all your friends and family, so we can raise as much money as possible. All money raised by the PTFA benefits ALL children in school.
Christmas Performance – please find enclosed a letter from Mrs Browne, Mrs Mather and Mrs Tidd regarding costumes for the Christmas performance. We would like them to be in school before Friday 30th November at the very latest. We have a full dress rehearsal the following week.
Christmas Pantomime – this year, the whole school will be visiting “The Selfish Giant” at the Brewery Arts Centre on Thursday 6th December. Further information regarding the trip will follow shortly. The total cost of the trip is £11.50, but as the PTFA have kindly agreed to fund the transport, we are asking parents for a contribution of £6.50 for each child.
Leck Playgroup Visit – Leck playgroup will be visiting school on Monday 17th December from 9.30am – 11.30am, please feel free to stay with younger siblings and tell any friends and family members to come along too. Please find enclosed a small flyer, please pop it on a noticeboard or advertise it wherever suitable, if anyone would like more copies please pop in the office.
Governors – we currently have a few vacancies on the board of governors, including a vacancy for a parent governor. Please come and talk to Mr Stafford-Roberts if you feel you could fill this role and would like to apply for the vacancy. If you have any family members or friends who may also be interested in joining the board, please send them our way. Thank you.
Head Lice – there has been a reported case of head lice in school. Please remember to check your child’s hair regularly and treat where necessary. Various treatment methods are outlined on the NHS website www.nhs.uk/conditions/head-lice
